EN 10204 Certificate Types

The definitions of material tests and certificate types in DIN 50049 were adopted by European standard EN 10204, first published in 1991 as certificate types 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1A, 3.1B, 3.1C and 3.2.

EN 10204 was revised in 2004 and published as EN 10204 in October 2004 with a simplified set of inspection documents (certificate types). These now include only types 2.1, 2.2, 3.1 and 3.2.

Test Certificate Standards and Types

Each certificate type has a reference number, which describes both the content and the 'validation' requirements described in the standard. The table below shows the full scope, with some interpretation of what they include.

Title Document content Document approved by
2.1 Declaration of conformity with the order Statement of order compliance Manufacturer
2.2 Test report Statement of compliance with the order, stating the results of non-specific inspections Manufacturer
3.1 Inspection certificate 3.1 Statement of compliance with the order, indicating the results of specific inspections Authorised inspection representative of the manufacturer who is independent of the production department
3.2 Inspection certificate 3.2 Statement of compliance with the order, indicating the results of specific inspections The manufacturer's authorised inspection representative independent of the production department and the buyer's authorised inspection representative or the inspector designated by official regulations

Such certificates provide crucial information about the inspection and testing processes a product has undergone and ensure transparency and traceability across industries. Manufacturers and customers can choose the right type of certificate based on their specific requirements to inspire confidence and comply with legal standards.
